Cape Verde

"Travel does not become an adventure until you leave
yourself behind"

I spent two weeks under the sun of Cape Verde
with my parents in February 2015.

Cape Verde is in the Atlantic Ocean, about 570km off the Western coast of Africa.
It is a cluster of 10 islands and eight islets.
We visited the one called Sal.

First we flew to Sweden and stayed the night in a hotel. Very early in the morning we had our flight to Sal.
The weather was sunny and warm the whole 2 weeks.
There was not so much to do, but at least we had time for sunbathing.

The residents of the island get their living from tourism and fishing.

Besides fishing, tourism in one of the biggest sources of income,
The ground is dry and infertile, which limits the farming and agriculture.

Best way to get around is renting a car or with a taxi. Both were really cheap options, a taxi around the town was only a few euros.

As I said earlier there was not much to see or do. One full day is enough to see everything there was. Of course my trip was in 2015 and I bet Sal has changed a lot since then.

I need to go back to find out how it has changed!

Photos of Finnish Lapland

Hola!

I used to work in Lapland for almost 3 winter seasons.

I was mainly working as a receptionist in a hotel called
Muotkan Maja, located in Saariselkä.

In Lapland, they experience "Polar Night", a complete darkness.

Depending where you are, it starts around October-November and ends in January.
This means the sun does not come up at all. They spend months without sun. Can you imagine?
Well then again during mid-summer the sun does not go down at all.
So when it's sunny, it will shine day and night.
Crazy right?

During my working months the sun came out for the first time after the dark months just before I came back home.

There you can do all kinds of winter activies, for example -

Snowboarding, skiing, husky/reindeer sledding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, aurora hunting etc.

The temperature changes like the wind.
It might go down to almost -40c, during summer it might get to +30c. When I was there, the temperature changed between -20 and -35.

In Lapland the air is so dry, the cold does not really feel that cold.
Even if it is -30c, sounds crazy, but it feels the same than -15c in Southern Finland.

We had a journalist visiting our hotel who wrote an article of us and the Lapland.
